Todd Hovey
Eric Sutton
Eric Sutton
Creative Director, Design and UX
Laurel Road

Eric’s creative career was sparked by an unusual gift: a tidy bundle of oil pastels, a jar of India ink with horse hair brush, and a roll of rice paper. Having grown up in a family of visual artists—painters, sculptors, weavers, you name it—he received no shortage of art supply gifts over the years, and no underexposure to the artist’s temperament. With an early penchant for the performing arts that reportedly began in the maternity ward, Eric has been successfully combatting imposter syndrome from a very early age.

After attending Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts, Eric launched a career of promulgating his creative opinions. From Presentation Artist to Graphic Designer to Brand Manager to UX/UI Designer, he found his niche supporting B2B, B2C, and B2B2C marketing and sales efforts across multiple industries, including Architecture, Beauty, Media (with stints at both AOL and MySpace), Travel and Financial Services. He believes that simple, strong and strategic visual storytelling is where the rubber meets the road—and he’s never shied from cutting the content to lift up his vision.

Presently, Eric is Creative Director at Laurel Road, a fintech-meets-bank start-up that is changing the way millennials bank and borrow by delivering personalized, online financial solutions based on their priorities. Before joining Laurel Road, Eric was Senior Manager of Brand and Creative Strategy at American Express Global Business Travel, where he architected interactive, customer-facing solutions and spearheaded a global rebrand.
