Dan Armstrong
Chief Digital Officer

Dan serves as the Chief Digital Officer and Managing Director of BankMobile, America's first completely fee-free, mobile-only chartered bank launched in January 2015.  Responsibilities include leading teams in product and feature development, mobile app requirements and design, CIP and new account origination, security, distribution and instant account-opening, customer acquisition and provisioning.  BankMobile is a division of Customers Bancorp (NYSE: CUBI).

With mobile banking and financial services, telecommunications and technology projects in 40+ countries, Dan brings distinctive expertise in developing new products, technologies and distribution strategies that accurately match technology with consumers’ needs. For the past 20 years, Dan has worked in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America start-ups, mobile banking/payments, instant-account opening and correspondent banking, telecommunications, NFC, cards, alliances, regulatory, feasibility and automation programs.

From 2009-2014, Dan worked on launching successful mobile banking and payments products for Dutch bank Rabobank, as well as large banks in countries like Brazil, Rwanda, Paraguay, China, India, Tanzania, Mozambique, Poland, Botswana, Zambia and Cameroon.  He has worked on contactless payments including establishment of a 3-bank/3-mobile operator venture in The Netherlands from 2009 to 2011 and served for three years on the Board of Directors of mBank Philippines, a mobile-only, nation-wide commercial bank.

One of the founders of pioneering Dutch GSM Service Provider Rabo Mobiel in the Netherlands from 2005-2009, Dan served as CTO responsible for telecommunications and mobile financial services technology.  Prior to 2005, Dan worked for companies like British Telecom, One GmbH, MobilTel Bulgaria, MCI, Sony, Netscape, Virgin Mobile, Veronica Mobile, and Proxicom.

Lonnie Talbert

Lonnie’s career has taken him all over the country, but when he came to New Mexico, Lonnie knew he wanted to make the Land of Enchantment his permanent home. Lonnie is married to Robin Brule and together they have three children: Michael Brule, Emma Talbert, and Annagrace Talbert.  

As an Operations Executive with 28 years of experience in senior executive positions including President, COO, EVP and Senior VP in the financial services industry. Currently, Lonnie holds the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Southwest Capital Bank, responsible for all day to day operations of the $350 million dollar commercial bank. Lonnie’s proven ability to manage over 1,200 employees, lead a diverse team of leaders at all levels of an organization, oversee multiple remote facilities and teams, administer budgets in excess of $100M, and spearhead process and continuous improvement projects yielding cost savings of over $7M. Skilled in maintaining full P&L responsibility, overseeing lean and six sigma projects, establishing total quality management systems, conducting meeting cost and schedule goals for projects as large as $23M. Demonstrated abilities in leading and guiding various business units of  both Fortune 500 companies and privately held smaller organizations; working cross functionally, leading technology projects, mentoring and training team members, and leading large operations units delivering high-quality customer care with quick to market product introduction and appropriate cost control.

Lonnie is deeply committed to supporting community and philanthropic groups and has served many non-profit organizations in a leadership role.  Lonnie’s past community involvement includes serving as Chairman of the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the March of Dimes, and Chair of the United Way of Central New Mexico’s 2009 campaign. Lonnie has also served on the board of several organizations including Junior Achievement, Amy Biehl High School, and the Association of Commerce and Industry. In 2007, Lonnie received the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Hope Award, which honors corporate leaders who are committed to philanthropy and service in their communities. Lonnie is also member of the New Mexico Amigo, the Official Goodwill Ambassadors for the State of New Mexico and recently joined the Parker Center for Family Business board of directors.

Joel is Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer at The Bank of Tampa. In his role, he leads the team that provides strategic and operational marketing, communications and experience support that enables the exceptional delivery of the Bank’s products and services. Prior to that, he worked for various financial services organizations, including CSCU, Bank of America and Chase. Joel has his Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the University of South Florida and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Additionally, he is on the Board of Trustees of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society – Suncoast Chapter and on the Marketing Committee of the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

Alejandro E. Carriles, Executive Vice President and Director of Mobile Strategy and Retail Innovation at BBVA Compass, is responsible for the mobile banking retail delivery channel, setting the overall strategic direction of the bank’s Mobile solutions in the USA, and serving as lead for retail innovation projects.

Mr. Carriles has led a renewed mobile strategy for the bank, which included the release of native mobile banking applications for the Android, Blackberry, iPhone, iPad, Windows Mobile and Kindle Fire platforms to complement the bank’s existing SMS Banking solution; redesigning the app fulfillment process, and a new marketing approach. As a result, the number of mobile app users increased over 10-fold in the last 3 years.

By focusing on the Customer Experience, Mr. Carriles has been able to lead projects that have influenced the industry, such as the Stand Alone Enrollment for Mobile Banking, effectively making Mobile a unique and independent channel from the traditional Online Banking, while at the same time dramatically improving the customer satisfaction among the bank’s mobile users.

Ryan recently took on a new role at Bank of the West leading the organization’s enterprise innovation efforts, after having previously managed a product development organization, within Digital Channels, focused on delivering breakthrough digital experiences across the Bank’s public facing web presence. Before joining Bank of the West, Ryan was involved in payments innovation work at Capital One and helped grow U.S. Bank’s small business segment and global treasury management product portfolio.
David Berglund

David Berglund joined U.S. Bank in 2017 and he serves as SVP, Artificial Intelligence (AI) leader. Mr. Berglund oversees the development of the Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning practice within the U.S. Bank innovation group including oversight of strategic product development, product innovation, risk mitigation, strategy and transformation efforts.  

Prior to joining U.S. Bank, Berglund spent more than seven years at Optum (a division of United Health Group, UHG). Most recently, he led AI within Optum's Advanced Technology Center, which included developing the enterprise AI strategy, building the R&D team’s emerging technology platform, and establishing a strategy for the company's innovation Intellectual Property. David held multiple prior roles at UHG including Entrepreneur in Residence, Managing Director of Portfolio Management, and Digital Product Developer. Berglund has lectured at the Wharton School and studied at Stanford University, the University of St. Thomas (MBA), Loyola University in Chicago (BS). Berglund, who co-founded Hoodstarter, an AI-powered web platform focused on economic development, resides in the Twin Cities, where he is highly engaged with his family and the local startup ecosystem.

Rountree joined Union in February 2018 to help concentrate strategic digital efforts and position the company for a digital future. Prior to Union, Rountree worked at Wells Fargo as Vice President of Credit Card Emerging Payments.  Previously, she held various leadership positions focusing on digital strategies for personal lending and online banking.  Rountree worked at SingleStone on the integration of HSBC and Capital One.  She began her career at Capital One working in email marketing and communications in Richmond, VA and with auto finance in San Diego, CA.  Rountree received her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Duke University.

Jon has 20+ years of experience in various Payments, Card and R&D functions.  He has been responsible for major payments product launches, managed Research and Competitive Intelligence functions, and led development of industry-first card technology.

Jon is the Senior Vice President, Head of Payments Strategy at TD Bank, America's Most Convenient Bank.  Jon came to TD Bank from Citibank where he launched CitiPay, the first proprietary bank digital wallet in the US.  Prior to Citibank, Jon was the Head of Competitive Intelligence, Consumer Products at Bank of America. He focused on branch comparison studies and ongoing competitor benchmarking.  Prior to that Jon worked in R&D developing the first customer-facing instant issuance kiosk for customers to print out payment cards and also developing health care payment systems. One of his products won Payment Product of the year in 2007 at the Payments Symposium in Las Vegas.  Jon held leadership positions in Credit, Portfolio Quality, Marketing and Research.  Jon got his start at MBNA as a CSR and believes speaking to 200 customers everyday was the most influential learning experience of his career.

Kevin Karrels is the senior vice president and digital channel strategy executive for First Tennessee Bank. First Tennessee is a regional bank with $28 billion in assets, and over 250k active digital users.  Kevin has had a nineteen-year career with First Tennessee while honing his craft in retail bank leadership.  He has spoken on the future of retail banking at the CEB, CBA, leadership conferences, and strategy groups within the banking industry.  He has been particularly interested in understanding the generational differences between Baby Boomers, Gen X, and Gen Y.  Kevin understands the future of banking relies on understanding these differences.  Kevin is driven for success in his career, personal life, and spiritual life.  Often known as “the idea guy”, he has a vision of banking that is multi channel, 24/7, uniquely convenient, and customer experienced focused.  The bank current generations will appreciate and the next generation demands.

Tamra O’Donnell is Senior Vice President, Director Corporate Marketing for Canandaigua National Bank & Trust.  In this role, she is responsible for Traditional Marketing, Web and Digital Marketing, and Market Research for the Bank and the subsidiaries of the Corporation.   Tamra is graduate of St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY, she earned Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Economics and Communication and a Master of Business Administration.   She joined CNB in 1989 and has held roles in Market Research, Product Development/Management, and Market Research.  She has managed the Marketing activities since 2005.

Pablo Cohan is a senior vice president on the U.S. Digital Payments and Labs team at Mastercard. In this role, he oversees product development and the go-to-market strategy for the Mastercard Digital Enablement Service (MDES) and Masterpass. Mr. Cohan has held this role since 2015. Previously, he oversaw media measurement for Mastercard Advisors. 

Before joining MasterCard in 2013, Mr. Cohan held various positions at The New York Observer, Adobe, MediaMind, and AT&T AdWorks.

Mr. Cohan is a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina and studied software engineering at ITBA. He holds an MBA from New York University’s Stern Business School. In his free time, he enjoys Argentinian futbol, music and stamp collecting.

Michele Fernandez-Daniel is a banking professional with over 15 years of banking experience in regulatory compliance (consumer compliance, AML/BSA, CTF and OFAC).  She has held several leadership positions in various international banks. She currently serves as Head of Compliance for Banco de Credito e Inversiones (Bci) Miami Branch, responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of the AML/CTF/OFAC and consumer compliance programs for the branch and Regional Compliance Officer overseeing the BSA/AML programs for Bci’s US operations. Prior to joining Bci, she served as the Chief Compliance Officer responsible for developing and overseeing the corporate compliance policy and compliance risk management program for a Panamanian Bank with a US presence.  

Ms. Fernandez-Daniel holds a Master’s Degree in International Business Administration from Nova University and an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Florida International University.  She is a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), and an Anti-Money Laundering Certified Associate (AMLCA).

Todd Keith is an innovative leader, strategist and author who guides the Regions UX Design & Innovation team to create useable and delightful digital experiences, balancing storytelling with user experience and audience needs with business goals. He holds a Master’s degree in literature. His background in the publishing industry includes writing, designing, launching, and optimizing websites for numerous nationally-recognized organizations and publications, and authoring multiple books related to his native state and a city guidebook. His background, coupled with his pursuit of brand coherence and identity, balances marketing initiatives and the development of quality content in well-designed user experiences.

Elizabeth Kelly

Elizabeth Kelly serves as Senior Vice President of Operations for United Income, which uses technology to provide holistic financial planning and money management services for people nearing or entering retirement.


Prior to joining United Income, Elizabeth served as Special Assistant to the President at the White House National Economic Council. In that capacity, she led White House engagement with federal agencies and external partners to develop and execute the President’s retirement security, financial inclusion, unemployment insurance, and sustainable capitalism agendas. She also helped launch myRA (a no-fee starter savings product from the Treasury Department) and coordinated the development, rollout, and defense of major rules and guidance, including the fiduciary (“conflict of interest”) rule, Military Lending Act rules closing prior loopholes to cap loans to service members at 36% APR, and rules enabling states to create their own retirement savings plans. For her work, Elizabeth was chosen as one of Forbes 30 Under 30 in Law & Policy.


Earlier in her career, Elizabeth worked at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and as a law clerk to Judge Stephen A. Higginson on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.


A native of New Orleans, Elizabeth holds a J.D. from Yale Law School, an MSc in Comparative Social Policy from the University of Oxford, and a B.A. from Duke University.

Joe Whitchurch is currently the Head of CreditWise® - Capital One's fast-growing app that helps users understand, improve and protect their credit and personal information. In this role, Joe leads a team creating a best-in-class technology product that helps everyone take control of their personal information. Joe has held a variety of customer and innovation roles in his 13 years at Capital One, from product and technology developments which have received multiple industry awards and patents, to designing the conversion experience for tens of millions of customers, to developing and launching the company’s first home-grown Big Data product. 

Additionally, Joe has always had a passion for helping entrepreneurs, serving as a mentor with the Harvard iLabs program and advising several start-ups, most recently a data security and authentication firm acquired by Salesforce.com. Prior to Capital One Joe was a consultant with Simon-Kutcher GmBH in Germany and the UK, specializing in strategy and product development. 

Joe holds an AB in Psychology from Harvard University and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He resides in Richmond with his wife, two children and two dogs.

Scott Jones is responsible for developing, communicating and executing PNC’s strategy around Real Time Payments (RTP®), the first new U.S. payments system in 40 years.

Before joining PNC, Jones worked for another major bank where he was responsible for faster payment systems including RTP and the Zelle Network®, a secure, bank-owned digital payments network. He has also worked with the payments line of business to identify and mitigate risks. 

Jones has held a number of operating executive roles including General Manager and Director of Operations for Supply Dynamics, a leader in supply chain visibility applications where he led product development teams for global Fortune 1000 clients in the aerospace, power generation, and heavy equipment industries. 

He holds a bachelor’s degree in operations management and entrepreneurship from the University of Cincinnati, and a master’s degree in business administration from Xavier University, Cincinnati. He is a certified Project Management Professional.

Purvi Shah is Vice President, Customer 360 within the Enterprise Digital and Analytics group at American Express. She is responsible for creating a global, enterprise-wide view of all of American Express’ customers – both individuals and business so that we may provide them with the best customer experience every day.   

Purvi joined American Express in 2010 and has had multiple Product Ownership roles across Technologies, Merchant and Small Business teams where she demonstrates a focus on efficient project execution, manages costs while mitigating risk, and helps the team deliver an exceptional customer experience. She has a penchant for identifying customer needs and developing a cohesive strategy to meet them, which has resulted in her earning a U.S. Patent for her work. 

Prior to American Express, Purvi was a Manager within the Technology practice at Deloitte Consulting. She led the implementation of numerous large-scale custom applications for various clients.  In addition to project management and client service activities, she was instrumental in leading and contributing to a number of key strategic business development activities at Deloitte.

Purvi holds an MBA degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a bachelor’s degree in Information Sciences and Technology from Pennsylvania State University. 

In her free time, Purvi enjoys to play with her 3.5 year old twins and cooking.  She also loves venturing across the globe and has traveled to over 20 countries.

Prior to M&T Bank, Kristen has led, executed and fostered digital strategy for BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York, as well as one of the top marketing communications agencies in her hometown of Buffalo, New York.

Luis has been at the bank for 1.5 years and prior to that spent 15 years at IBM. While at IBM, Luis led the IBM Watson Workspace team and launched a new offering to the market leveraging Watson’s Natural Language Processing technology. Luis also helped organizations embark on their Social and Digital Business transformation while at IBM. Luis has presented at various conferences such as SxSW, Enterprise 2.0, Social Connections, IBM InterConnect, IBM Connect. Brought in to establish the channel,  Jay is responsible for digital banking strategy, operations and user experience management and closely collaborates with other lines of business in internal adoption of digital technologies.  Prior to joining the Security Service Federal Credit Union, Jay has worked at  AMD, U.S. Global Investors and Apple. Ram joined Advia (Kalamazoo, MI - $1.7B in assets) in March of 2018 and has over 11 years of experience in the credit union industry. In his 11 years of service, he has held various leadership roles in operations, digital delivery, retail support, payments, project management, and lending. His experience also includes leading an innovation team, establishing an outbound sales department, being the first to market with wearable banking in the US, and offering one of the top 10 mobile banking apps in the US for three consecutive years.

Ram believes in design thinking and rapid experimentation to test new technology. His team approaches new opportunities through the lenses of mobile first, branch optional, and creating a frictionless experience.

Brenda Arndt joined the U.S. Bank digital marketing team as the Director of the Search Engine Optimization Program.  She is primarily responsible for supporting bank business lines with their online marketing efforts by providing SEO consultation and best practices. Brenda has over 14 years of online, digital marketing and social media experience for both large and small business.  Before joining U.S. Bank she was the Digital Marketing Manager for the Miracle-Ear franchise. Brenda and her husband are also former owners of three web based companies which helped small businesses build online relationships.

Brenda has a passion for helping businesses grow. For five years she taught web, SEO and social media strategy in conjunction with SCORE and has given numerous seminars in the online marketing space at conventions and forums.  She received her degree in Graphic Design from the University of Wisconsin STOUT.

Brenda lives on the west side of Minneapolis with her husband, daughter Amanda and their two very precocious cats Cutie and Ruby. She has kissed a stingray in Grand Cayman, sailed in the blue waters off Tortola, swam with turtles in Maui, taken river tours of Reisling country in Germany, hiked across the London Bridge, watched a glacier calf in Alaska, ridden her bike 500 miles across Iowa, snorkeled the waters of St Croix, and enjoys experimenting with new and innovative technologies in her spare time.

Based in Chicago, John Piazza leads the digital innovation practice at MB Financial Bank, a regional bank with $20 billion in assets.  With an eye on leveraging new technologies, he focuses on new product development, digital strategy, and strategic investments.  He partners closely with groups across MB, from consumer banking to treasury management, as they look to advance their digital capabilities and plays an active role in building MB’s place in the fintech ecosystem.  Prior to his current role, he led digital customer acquisition and analytics and worked on corporate projects, including strategic planning and corporate development.  He also serves as a member of the Federal Reserve's Secure Payment Task Force and the Federal Reserve’s Directories Working Group where he helped develop a framework for an interoperable directory model for real-time payments in the US.

Jon Sandruck is a Design Director for USAA, where he leads the design team for Auto Ownership. He leads his team to create experiences that are usable, desirable, and feasible; using human-centered design and design thinking, and usability research. He's applied these methods to attract users, increase efficiency, and improve user satisfaction; providing incremental value of billions of dollars.

He is also the President of the Dallas/Fort Worth chapter of AIGA, the professional association for design.

Bruce Lowthers

Bruce Lowthers serves as chief operating officer of the Integrated Financial Solutions (IFS) organization. In this role, Lowthers is responsible for developing and delivering FIS’ banking, wealth, payments and treasury offerings for financial institutions, retail, government and corporate clients in North America.


Previously, Lowthers served FIS in a number of executive positions, including head of the company’s Payments business, head of Product Sales and Global Sales Operations and general manager of the Global Payments Software business. Prior to joining FIS, Lowthers held the position of senior vice president of Community Markets for eFunds, where he was responsible for the P&L for all payment and risk products for that market. He also held executive officer positions at four startup companies.


Lowthers serves on the board of P20, the new transatlantic payment experience. He also serves on the American Transaction Processors Coalition. Lowthers was named 2017 “Maverick of the Year” by The American Business Awards and International Business Awards and “World’s Most Influential Payments Professional” by the World Payments Congress.


Lowthers holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts and began his career as a certified public accountant.
